ITT Tech closure leaves students angry, confused
The kiss of death for ITT Tech was when the government recently banned the for-profit school from enrolling new students with federal financial aid.

Lance Permillion from LaPlace is one of a handful of ITT Tech students who rushed down to the St. The company claimed it did not receive due process in the matter, calling the ruling “unconstitutional”. The closure comes on the heels of concerns and sanctions by the U.S. Department of Education about the company’s “administrative capacity, organizational integrity, financial ability and ability to serve students”.
ITT Tech is a for-profit college.
“I also ask that your department fully inform all those affected of their option to refuse a planned teach-out and instead seek forgiveness of their outstanding federal student loans through the Closed School Discharge program”. “Effective today, the company has eliminated the positions of the overwhelming majority of our more than 8,000 employees”.
Under the new measures, current students can continue receiving federal grants and loans.
ITT is closing over 140 locations in 38 states.
As students around the country start fall semester this week, ITT Technical Institutes is shutting down.
Thousands of ITT Tech students will wake up Wednesday morning with many unanswered questions after the school announced it would close the doors at all 130 campuses.
The company, based in Carmel, Indiana, says its move will have an impact on hundreds of thousands of students and alumni as well as more than 8,000 employees. “Pretty devastated. Not sure what I was going to do to get that degree”. Unless they can transfer to other institutions, school is out for some 43,000 students. But Luke Herrine, legal coordinator for the Debt Collective, which helps students get debt relief, said if Corinthian was any indication, the government isn’t eager to do that.
