Just last month, the U.S. Department of Education stopped ITT Tech from enrolling new students who receive federal aid. ITT operated 130 campuses in 38 states, serving 40,000 students according to the company’s website.

In August, the U.S. Department of Education banned the company from enrolling students who get federal aid.
It was rarely used until the 2014 collapse of for-profit chain Corinthian Colleges, which forced the Education Department address re-evaluate the standard used for reviewing appeals for debt relief.
Almost 8,000 employees lost their jobs and 35,000 students are looking for a new college. The U.S. Department of Education said students may be eligible for federal loan discharge. In fact, she started at ITT campus in Washington and transferred to one in Georgia.
“I hope Ohio’s ITT students will look into this option and continue their education”.
ITT’s website is still up but has a notice across the top of the home page saying, “We are now not enrolling new students”. Unfortunately, there is no relief for students with private loans or whose parents borrowed from the government with a Parent PLUS loan. “In addition, what they should do is reach out to community colleges to see if their credits will transfer”.
The U.S. Department of Education said Tuesday students now enrolled at ITT or those who withdrew within 120 days of its closure may be eligible to have their federal student loans discharged.
Will current ITT Tech students have to keep paying for loans?

“A friend of mine sent me a caption of the paper saying that they’re closing, so I called the lead teacher, and she told me that it’s closed”, said Taylor, who was an adjunct instructor for the nursing program. While not every for-profit college is a bad actor, the predatory recruitment practices employed by some of these businesses to exploit the 90/10 loophole are well documented.
