ITT offered on campus and online classes in business, nursing, health sciences, electronics and information technology.
FMU said it has dedicated phone lines and staff to advise affected students on the upcoming “Session B”, which begins October 12th.
Department Undersecretary Ted Mitchell said ITT never made a formal proposal, and that the department’s “informal conversations” with potential buyers had failed.
ITT Technical Institutes operates 130 campuses in 38 states, including two campuses in San Antonio.
Last month, the Department of Education stopped the school from allowing new students to use federal loans to pay for the college, which the company believes lead to their downfall.
In the wake of devastating federal sanctions, officials from the Carmel-based ITT Educational Services Inc. announced Tuesday that all ITT Technical Institute campuses will be closing. “The damage done to our students and employees, as well as to our shareholders and the American taxpayers, is irrevocable”. ITT student Philip Dean says, “When I read the email this morning, and kinda found out they’re not even going to start the next quarter, man that really laid into me”. But Luke Herrine, legal coordinator for the Debt Collective, which helps students get debt relief, said if Corinthian was any indication, the government isn’t eager to do that.
The US Department of Education says it is working with community colleges and the Higher Learning Commission – an accreditation agency – to try to give schools flexibility in accepting transfer credits. The closure comes on the heels of concerns and sanctions by the U.S. Department of Education about the company’s “administrative capacity, organizational integrity, financial ability and ability to serve students”.

Students will not be eligible for the Discharge if they choose to transfer credits and complete their program of study or a comparable program at another school.
