Ivanka Trump at RNC: Father is ‘the people’s nominee’
Trump made a direct pitch to the supporters of Clinton’s primary rival, democratic socialist Bernie Sanders, twice invoking Sanders’ name. Peter Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal, said only Trump was being honest about how “fake culture wars” distract from America’s economic decline.

“Look, Ted Cruz is a great asset to our party and the real conversation we should be having right now is how great a job Mike Pence did”, Corcoran said, referring to the GOP vice presidential nominee who was upstaged by Cruz’s antics. At the top of the list: Unifying a fractured party and quieting Americans’ concerns about his preparedness for the presidency.
Well, that sufficiently blew up in Ted Cruz’s face.
Trump’s wife, Melania, foreshadowed it all on opening night, noting, “It would not be a Trump contest without excitement and drama”. Balloons will drop from the ceiling, and the stage will be filled with Trump family members and supporters. On his biggest night, he was introduced by his popular, 34-year-old daughter Ivanka, who made perhaps the most revealing observation of anyone at the convention.
Father and daughter took the stage together in the afternoon for an extensive walkthrough, taking turns standing at the podium and staring out into an arena that will be filled with jubilant delegates by evening.
“That pledge [to endorse the eventual nominee] was not a blanket commitment that if you go and slander and attack Heidi, that I’m going to nonetheless come like a puppy dog and say thank you very much for maligning my wife and maligning my father”, he said, according to television station WFAA in Dallas. But Trump exploited the sickening killings of police officers and the terrorist-inspired attacks in Orlando and elsewhere to proclaim himself as the powerful leader who would make everyone feel personally safe and economically secure.
“I think he needs to lay out some clear policy views”, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback said.
On the eve of his address, Trump suggested a new course for USA foreign policy, saying he would set different conditions before coming to the defense of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies.
Cruz didn’t tell the convention crowd that he plans to vote for Trump.
“We will stop it”, Trump said.
Democrats, Republicans and global partners warned of the risks of backing away from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation obligations. He would renegotiate the NAFTA trade accord linking the United States, Canada and Mexico.
On the day he claims the presidential nomination of Abraham Lincoln’s political party, Donald Trump has started things off with social-media missiles fired against the embarrassed losers still refusing to back him.
Although Trump tried to publicly brush off the struggle to win Cruz’s support, senior Trump adviser Paul Manafort went at Cruz’s pro-Constitution profile.
The Texas senator refused to endorse Trump during his Wednesday speech, even as delegates loudly jeered him from the convention floor.
“To those listening, please, don’t stay home in November, ” Cruz, who came a distant second to Trump in the primaries and who has indicated he will run again in 2020, said. “Stand and speak, and vote your conscience”.
It all began when the Texas Senator took advantage of the party’s control over the speakers’ line-up to take the mike and upstage the vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence – who was the keynote speaker of the day – with a speech that implicitly called for a rejection of Trump.
Cruz told the Texas delegation Thursday morning he won’t vote for Hillary Clinton, but isn’t promising a Trump endorsement either.
Former House Speaker John Boehner of OH, who had compared Cruz to the devil, responded by remarking: “Lucifer is back”, his spokesman said on Twitter.

“As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women weren’t a significant portion of the workplace, and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all”, she said.
