Ivanka Trump: ‘My Father Is A Fighter’

Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday night and then proceeded to deliver a shouted, scare-mongering speech about a nation beset by constant lawlessness and violence.

Appearing before delegates, the most unorthodox and controversial presidential contender in modern times will accept the nomination of a party that has guided more candidates to the Oval Office than any other. No one has more faith in the American people than my father.

“To the people all over America, I say, when you have my father in your corner, you will never again have to worry about being let down”.

But the Republican party rank-and-file lapped it up, rising to its feet in standing ovation after standing ovation and displaying none of the divisions that have plagued the four-day convention.

Trump’s speech on the closing night of the Republican convention marks his highest-profile opportunity to unite his fractured Republican Party and quiet Americans’ concerns about his preparedness for the White House.

Cruz stuck to his non-endorsement Thursday, reminding a meeting of the Texas delegation that Trump has criticized his wife’s looks and all but accused his father of participating in a plot to assassinate President John F. Kennedy.

Ovations and adulations for the conservative Texas senator turned to jeers and boos as it became clear he had not come to Cleveland to endorse the party nominee.

Trump also argued that the U.S. had lost its standing in the world, and promised to address the issue. Mr. Cruz’s speech was workmanlike, but his words lacked the poetry and emotive force of Mr. Reagan.

“Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy”, Trump will say.

For three days running the convention’s intended message of the day got sideswiped by unwelcome developments – a biting if short-lived scrap over rules during the opening, a storm over plagiarism in Melania Trump’s speech that spilled into Wednesday, then Cruz’s performance from the stage. When Cruz, who has long sought Adelson’s support, tried to enter, he was turned away, CNN reported. “And to me, Mr. Cruz is a man of principles”.

This was not how the convention was meant to go. But, he said, Cruz was allowed to go on stage anyway because the spectacle of a continued rivalry would play into Trump’s “selfish ” script, at the expense of party unity.

Ted Cruz faced a volatile crowd as chants of “Endorse Trump” rang out during his remarks at the Republican National Convention.

“For more than a year, Donald Trump has been the people’s champion”, she said.

Pence insisted Thursday morning that Trump would stand our allies despite the comments, but said in an interview with Fox News that “those countries must pay their fair share”.

His campaign defied political norms – embracing racially inflammatory policies, offending key voting blocs, eschewing big-spending advertising campaigns and relying on saturated media coverage above campaign structure.

He recently hedged on normally sacrosanct support for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, warning it would depend “if they fulfill their commitments to us”.

In office, Trump promised to “put America first”.

Many candidates have seen a bump in the polls following the party convention.

In 1976, the Reagan forces knew that incumbent President Gerald Ford had a majority of the delegates, but they knew too that Ronald Reagan was the first choice of many who would have to vote for the president, and that given the chance they would nominate Mr. Reagan.

He will accuse Clinton of failures while serving as President Barack Obama’s first-term secretary of state and cite her use of a private email server as evidence she is corrupt.
