Ivanka Trump shuts down Cosmo interview

Ivanka said her father’s plan guarantees new moms six weeks of paid maternity leave by amending the existing unemployment insurance that companies are required to carry.

In a Fox News interview, Trump told Megyn Kelly that Hillary Clinton’s website has no policy “pertaining to any of these issues: child care, elder care, or maternity leave or paternity leave, for that matter”.

One thing is for certain: Ivanka Trump, while insisting that she is “not partisan” in her convention speech, is pushing some Republicans to rethink the issue and address the rising cost of childcare that ordinary American families face every day. “Can you talk a little about those comments, and perhaps what has changed?”

“So I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions”, she said.

“I would like to say that I’m sorry the questions – you’re finding them negative, but it is relevant that a presidential candidate made those comments, so I’m just following up”, Gupta said.

“Regardless of who you support, policies benefiting women and families are becoming topics of mainstream conversation and that’s a good thing”, she added.

“Well, you said he made those comments”, Ivanka Trump replied.

Trump’s proposal is also politically unrealistic, Pelosi said, because many Republicans – long opposed to mandatory paid leave – are reluctant to back it. He also described pregnant employees as “an inconvenience” during a 2004 interview with NBC’s Dateline.

Trump defended her father as Gupta pressed her for answers on how he plans to pay for such policies.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump released his plan for a series of tax credits and paid time off to help working mothers, and his daughter, Ivanka, wasted no time peddling the proposals. “Those are your words”.

The business mogul initially pointed to the proposal’s benefits to same-sex couples-though after some prodding, she conceded that same-sex male couples would be exempt from special leave.

Shortly afterwards, Ivanka said: “I’m going to jump off, I have to run”. “So I should not say Ivanka, you’re fired, right?”

Ivanka Trump later explained her point of view in a series of tweets Thursday afternoon.

He said: “I guess that’s a form of exercise?”

The 34-year-old businesswoman spoke with Cosmo after helping her father debut his new childcare and family leave plan on Tuesday.

Offering women six weeks of paid leave while they raise newborns, Peck says, isn’t really an advance but instead “rolls back decades of progress in work and in parenting in the USA, where men have taken on more of the parenting work, and women slowly have become equals in the work world”. Trump balked at the question. She has also mapped out on Twitter how America compares to other countries that do offer paid family leave.

The ease with which Trump told this lie, his ability to simply invent childcare facilities that do not exist for his employees, tells you nearly everything you need to know about the maternity leave and childcare policies Trump introduced Tuesday night.

This was a rare media hiccup for the superhumanly buttoned-up, on-message favorite daughter of the G.O.P. nominee, who has served as a sort of fixer for her gaffe-prone father throughout the campaign.
