Ivanka Trump Was ‘Enormously Impressed’ With Melania’s Speech
Senator Cruz, who came in second to Mr Trump in the race for the Republican nomination after a bitter and personal campaign, was booed by delegates at the gathering in Cleveland on Wednesday night when he gave a speech but did not endorse Mr Trump.

Mr Cruz said he would not be a “servile puppy” to someone who had attacked his wife and father.
Cruz said Trump should not have been surprised by the content of his Wednesday night address because the campaign “knew exactly what I was going to say”.
Meanwhile, Democrats have a couple of strong Latino prospects for Senate, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Loretta Sanchez of California. “The standard that I apply is, which candidate do I trust to defend the Constitution?” said Cruz.
“I think you misunderstood one paragraph from Ted Cruz, who is a superb orator”, Gingrich said.
CLEVELAND (AP) – Donald Trump followed the script in his big speech to the Republican National Convention. After a gunman claiming Islamic State allegiance killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, Trump said he’d be better than Hillary Clinton because he wouldn’t allow in Muslim immigrants who want to “murder gays”.
Trump habitually referred to Cruz as “Lying Ted” during the campaign, denigrated his wife Heidi Cruz’s looks, and at one point even suggested that Cruz’s father may have been involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Mocking the pro-Clinton slogan – “I’m With Her” – Trump plans to say his pledge is “I’m with you, the American people: I am your voice”. “It’s a hope and a prayer that we get the Republican party back together”, she said. Trump threatened to start a super PAC to oppose Cruz if the Texas senator ran for president, asking Pence whether that was legally permitted.
Republicans lustily cheered their nominee on the convention’s closing night but not all can figure out what he’d be like in the Oval Office. Now, everyone will be talking about his speech – overshadowing what should have been vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence’s coming-out party.
Trump is breaking sharply with his party on trade. That’s when a Trump speechwriter, showing the campaign’s earlier denials had been false, acknowledged that she put Obama’s words into the speech, if inadvertently after Melania read them to her.
Cruz’s move, however, appears to have backfired. Given that Donald Trump received more than 12 million votes in 2016, that is a lot of support that he may have just permanently angered. But an insult was answered.
Susan Hutchison, chair of the Washington delegation to the convention, said she confronted Cruz after his speech and called him a “traitor to the party”. ABC News coverage of the Republican National ConventionThere was no apology and no backtracking from Cruz as he spoke to his state’s GOP delegation Thursday morning.
“I get along with everybody”. He brought up old feuds with Senator Ted Cruz and Governor John Kasich.
He said he would ensure that young people in predominantly black cities “have as much of a right to live out their dreams as any other child in America”.
“The next Republican nominee needs to be able to make that case against Hillary [Clinton]”.

The Republican presidential nominee also said he won’t let US companies relocate to other countries – laying off workers in the process – “without consequences”. Though he vanquished 16 primary rivals, he’s viewed with unprecedented negativity by the broader electorate, and is struggling in particular with younger voters and minorities, groups GOP leaders know they need for the party to grow. Pre-convention, independents split 34% Clinton to 31% Trump, with sizable numbers behind Johnson (22%) and Stein (10%). There are 2,472 delegates attending, selected at state and congressional district conventions, and representing each U.S. state and territory.
