Ivo Karlovic into 3rd round of French Open
Paris: Defending French Open champion Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland reached the third round on Wednesday after labouring to a 7-6 (9/7), 6-3, 6-4 win over Japan’s Taro Daniel. “Today there were many ups and downs, but I have my tennis and I’m ready to step it up”. “For sure it was some up and down, could have been better, but winning three sets, it’s always good, and in general I think it’s been a good day”, said Wawrinka.

Speaking after a first-round win at the French Open, Murray insisted “we certainly didn’t fall out”, and their relationship remains “good” despite the end of their ground-breaking, two-year coaching tie last month.
However, the two-time major champion responded in the fourth to force a decider, and Murray completed a second straight nervy five-set win having been taken the distance by Radek Stepanek in the opening round.
Nishikori, a quarter-finalist in 2015, coasted into the last 32 with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov.
“It was a tough three-sets match, but I think I did the job I had to do. And not just before matches, (it) happened to me at other meals as well”. After beating 32nd-seeded Jelena Ostapenko in the first round, she advanced to the third round by beating Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-3, 6-3.
Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, 2009 French Open victor Svetlana Kuznetsova and 2014 finalist Simona Halep have all advanced to the third round at Roland Garros. I think in that case there is no real reason to make this bet unless you want to place a bankroll booster since this is one of the safest bets I have seen.
Japan’s Kei Nishikori maintained his impressive clay-court form to outclass Russian Andrey Kuznetsov 6-3 6-3 6-3 in their second round match.
It’s the second time in three years that the Australian Open women’s champion lost in the first round at Roland Garros – the same thing happened to Li Na in 2014.
“She’s a young player and she has nothing to lose”, she said.
Karlovic, the 27th seed, defeated Australian wildcard Jordan Thompson 6-7 (2/7), 6-3, 7-6 (7/3), 6-7 (4/7), 12-10 in a four and a half hour marathon. Murray was leading the fourth 4-2 when play was suspended Monday because of darkness.

The third-seeded Kerber was beaten 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 by 58th-ranked Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.
