Iyer hails win over KKR as unbelievable

Iyer was handed over the reins of captaincy when Gautam Gambhir stepped down after Delhi lost five of its first six games in the IPL. The side is now struggling in the lower half of the table. They have won half of their matches they played and are stranded at fourth spot in the points table.

In reply, KKR were reeling at 77-5 before Andre Russell and Shubman Gill combined to stitch a 65-runs stand. The West Indian’s return to the pavilion in the 18th over, bowled by Avesh Khan, virtually ended the visitors’ chances. Shreyas Iyer will take over.

What was all the more special in the win was the emergence of a new hero in the camp.

Chasing the massive total, Kolkata Knight Riders had a wobbling start.

Seeing his rather forgettable performance as the captain for the side, and to salvage whatever remaining games the team has got, Gautam Gambhir announced his decision to step down from the captaincy from 25th April. Iyer was able to capitalise in spectacular fashion.

Kolkata had a stuttering start to their innings as Trent Boult scalped two quick wickets in Robin Uthappa and Sunil Narine. He hit seven fours and two sixes during his stay at the crease. Russell (1/28) bowled well for the visitors.

“He [Prithvi] has been really batting well since the start of the season”. Colin Munro, along with him gave us a fifty-run partnership.

“I didn’t make any call to be honest”, Iyer said. Piyush Chawla went for 18 runs in the third over and Sunil Narine for 11 in the fifth. If the dew came, it may have been easier. I think we really need to wake up in the fielding department. The spinners did okay today, actually.

Glenn Maxwell too played a crucial role in Daredevils’ splendid show with his 27-run knock.

But, Knight Riders caused their own downfall after Gill (37 off 29 balls) got himself run-out, trying to take an ambitious single in the 16th over. The match will begin at 08:00 pm and the toss at 07:30 pm.

After starting with high expectations, Delhi Daredevils is once right there at the end of the Points Table like every other year.
