J.J. Watt To Be Placed On PUP List Following Back Surgery

Losing J.J. Watt (99) for any length of time would be a blow to the Texans.

McClain identified Devon Still, Christian Covington, Brandon Dunn and Jeoffrey Pagan as some younger players “who’ll get a lot of playing time at both defensive end positions”, at least in training camp.

Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt underwent back surgery recently, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle.

Players on the PUP list for training camp can be taken off at any time.

The game against the Bears is September 11 – 53 days after Watt’s surgery. He played with a herniated disk in his back last season and also had a broken hand and five torn muscles in his core.

That prompted Rapoport to note that Watt could require more than 6-8 weeks, which isn’t what was initially said.

J.J. Watt has never missed a game in his five-year National Football League career. But sources told ESPN’s Tania Ganguli that there was concern his availability for the first two games of the season could be compromised, depending on the recovery process. After an injury riddled season, the star player had to have surgery to fix a torn groin that forced him to leave the team’s 30-0 playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
