J&K: 4 terrorists, 3 security personnel killed in Kulgam encounter

While two civilians injured were shifted to Srinagar at SMHS hospital for advance treatment, Medical Superintendent SMHS Dr Nazir Ahmad Chowdhary told KNS.

The wounded troopers who were immediately airlifted to military base hospital in Srinagar are said to be in stable condition. But, they said, two brothers were sent back inside by the security personnel, and only one of them came out. Reports stated that two militants belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to the sources, search operation is on the way to catch them.

The house, where from militants were firing on the troops, was completely damaged during the gunfight.

In the ensuing fire fight four people and two soldiers were killed.

The slain soldiers have been identified as Lance Naiks Raghubeer Singh and Bhandoriya Gopal Singh, both from 1 Rashtriya Rifles. Two civilians were also killed – one in the encounter, and another in the protests that followed. The authorities strongly refuted the charge. “All were involved in several terror incidents, including killing of police personnel”, a police spokesman said.

“At 11.30 pm on Saturday we got the information from the police that four militants are hiding there”.

More than 70,000 Kashmiris have been killed so far in the violence, majority by Indian forces. “Security establishments hide the truth to stop demoralization of their men”, he said.

“Intelligence input was clear that terrorists were hiding in a house in the village following which a security ring was thrown around the locality, so that no terrorists could escape”, he said.

One of the critically injured youth identified as 22-year-old Mushtaq Ahmad of Srigufwara, Bijbehara succumbed to injuries. “We salute the people for taking part in huge numbers in the funerals of slain militants”.

Police were fired upon while conducting searches in Nagbal Frisal village after learning militants were in the area.

Call for the strike was given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik.
