J.K. Simmons will play Commissioner Gordon in Zack Snyder’s Justice League
As DC Comics and Warner Bros. continue to push forward with their expanded film universe, yet another iconic character from the written source material has been cast with a talented actor stepping up to play the role.

Back to Justice League though and while there’s no word on how significant a role he’ll have here, Simmons joins an already impressive cast which includes names like Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amber Heard, and Amy Adams.
Warner Bros. had no comment. But I suppose it’s either you go all in with DC movies or let these properties wither on the shelf, and perhaps they are too potentially lucrative for that latter scenario to be allowed to happen.
Penned by Chris Terrio (Argo), Justice League will be released in two parts and is expected to start filming sometime in April. Production begins next month. It’s produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder.
The more interesting question is why we won’t see Commissioner Gordon in Batman V Superman, which takes place in both Metropolis and Gotham, if the movie’s dryly amusing marketing is any indication. Currently, a younger version of Gordon, played by Ben McKenzie, leads Fox’s Batman prequel Gotham. The musical reunites Simmons with director Damien Chazelle of “Whiplash”, which landed Simmons the supporting actor Oscar in 2015.
Simmons is current scene lending his voice to Disney’s Zootopia, and will next be seen in The Meddler with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne.

He also co-stars in the upcoming thriller “The Accountant” starring Ben Affleck.
