Jürgen Klopp rues Liverpool’s wasteful finishing after 1-1 draw with Tottenham

Rose preserved Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season by scoring from one of his team’s rare sights on goal, striking a slightly mis-hit shot inside the near post in the 72nd after Lamela flicked on Eric Dier’s right-wing cross.

James Milner capped a dominant first-half display by Liverpool by converting a 43rd-minute penalty after Roberto Firmino was tripped by Erik Lamela.

The England worldwide played in a right-wing role last weekend as Liverpool lost 2-0 to Burnley and the striker came out and emphasised that his best position is as a striker.

The forward admitted he was frustrated at having to play a wider role in the 2-0 loss to Burnley.

Pochettino was proud of the way his players forced their way back into a game which Liverpool dominated in the first half.

Liverpool had the first chance of the game on fifth minute but Philippe Coutinho’s low drive was brilliantly saved by Michel Vorm.

The Liverpool manager defended his striker after Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness questioned the player’s future at the club. “I am not complaining, but we have 60, 70 per cent of our squad on worldwide duties, and it makes it very hard for us”. We always want to win so we’re not satisfied. “We’re just missing a few goals more”.

“Because last season he scored in game 10 and was the top scorer in the league”.

Spurs striker Harry Kane is yet to score this season, but having taken seven games to open his account last term – which ended with him winning the Golden Boot – manager Mauricio Pochettino is not anxious. “After the meeting I told my agent “I’m going to join Spurs”, the Dutchman said. Both teams played with passion, which is very important. Liverpool is meeting Tottenham – and that’s the kind of a game nobody is really neutral about. When you play a team who like to play on the counter attack you must take some risks. “The draw is a fair result”.

Tottenham have not beaten Liverpool in almost four years and manager Pochettino is hoping his team can break that trend in this kick-off. This game showed again what we can do and how we can play. “We played well in the first half”.
