“Jacare” Souza Will Throw Down With Yoel Romero at UFC 194

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Monday announced that the top-10 middleweights have agreed to meet at UFC 194, which takes place December 12 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The two were originally slated to fight in February, but Souza contracted pneumonia and was forced to withdraw. The 36-year-old is a ideal 5-0 in the UFC, and his last defeat was a decision loss to Luke Rockhold for the Strikeforce belt. Romero pulled out of the rescheduled date in April when he tore the meniscus in his knee. Meanwhile, Romero has a six-fight winning streak, earning wins over Lyoto Machida, Tim Kennedy, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, Ronny Markes and Clifford Starks in his octagon run. Unfortunately, the biggest win of his career was marred by what he said (or didn’t say) in the post-fight interview with Jon Anik.

So, in addition to a title fight between middleweight champ Chris Weidman and Luke Rochold, it will also see the #2 and #3 185’ers, Souza and Romero respectively, throw down.

It is the third time this year the UFC has attempted to make this fight. The Souza-Romero matchup has been booked and canceled twice before.

Cross your fingers and hope the UFC’s final pay-per-view of 2015 stays intact.
