Jackpot for Saturday’s mega Powerball drawing has reached record level of $800

It boasts of having “official tickets for all the world’s biggest lotteries”, including the Powerball in the United States and EuroMillions in France. For Wednesday night’s drawing, they purchased 6.3 million.

The Powerball jackpot climbed again Friday morning to an estimated $800 million as sales soared before Saturday’s drawing.

Because no one hit Wednesday’s jackpot, the top prize for Saturday’s multistate lottery will be at least $700 million.

The previous record was a $656 million Mega Millions payout in 2012 won by three lucky players in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.

The prize would have a cash option of $428.4 million, and that’s before taxes are deducted.

Could America’s first $1 Billion jackpot become a reality by the time winning numbers are revealed at 10:59 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 9, 2016)?

The $700 million Powerball jackpot is creating a frenzy across the nation, prompting questions from like “Where can I buy a Powerball ticket?”, “What numbers should I play?”, and “What time will the winning numbers be drawn on Saturday night?” The bigger prize entices more people to buy tickets, and that drives up the jackpot. “As fun as this is, it is important to keep in mind that it only takes one ticket to win – and we encourage everyone to play responsibly”.

The odds of winning the jackpot are long – is it worth getting a ticket?

The Louisiana Lottery Corporation said nobody won the jackpots in Easy 5 or the Louisiana Lotto, but there were two Match 5 winners in the state Wednesday. This is the largest jackpot in Powerball history, and also the largest jackpot of any lottery game in USA history.

The current jackpot has been growing since November 7, 2015.

The thought of planning a new life with an extra $800 million may be tempting for lottery players, but Jeffrey Miecznikowski, a statistics professor at the University of Buffalo, warns the odds of winning are extremely low.

“No commission is ever taken on prizes at theLotter.com – what you win is entirely yours”. Chances of having the winning Powerball ticket are one in 292.2 million, according to Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the game.
