Jackson Councilman says’ Let’s throw rocks at police’
Councilman Kenneth Stokes suggests citizens pelt them with rocks and bottles to keep them out of the city. “Let’s get rocks; let’s get bricks, and let’s get bottles”, Stokes told CNN affiliate WJTV. But we want the same respect that they give to their neighborhoods given to Jackson neighborhoods.

It was no one-off quip. Stokes repeated the suggestion to different local news source outlets.
“What I suggest, we get the black leadership together, and as these jurisdictions come into Jackson, we throw rocks, bricks and bottles at them”, he said.
Stokes’ statement sparked outrage on social media – including from Jackson Mayor, Tony Yarber. “So why has not he been arrested. Resign now #kennethstokes”, another commented.
“The City Council must take steps to address this recurring problem”, Stokes said.
Stokes said he was told by residents of a high speed chase on Mobile Ave. on Christmas Eve involving police officers from Flowood, Ridgeland, and perhaps Pearl.
“Mr. Stokes’ remarks are reprehensible, particularly with the attacks we have seen against our men and women in law enforcement”. This is not short of an outright assault upon all who wear the badge.
Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker fired back at Stokes through Facebook.
Stokes defended his comments Friday.
“I believe it is ludacris for an elected official to make those types of statement”, Michael Guest, the District Attorney for Madison and Rankin County, said.
This all started after recent a chase into Jackson from Richland. But risking lives to chase people suspected of misdemeanors is not. Multiple police cars raced after the suspect through Jackson.

“These kind of chases put children in danger”, he said.
