Department of Natural Resources staff collected 4 EAB larvae August 6th from an ash tree at the DNR Service Center in Black River Falls.

Most of the southern half of Wisconsin, from Buffalo County east to Door County, is included in the emerald ash borer quarantine, along with Douglas and Oneida counties in northern Wisconsin.

With the addition of Jackson County, 39 counties in the state are under quarantine due to the ash borer. They organized public seminars on their own in order to inform people about the specifics regarding the transmission of the ash borer and also what they could each do in order to prevent it from spreading. Trees on nearby properties also showed problems.

“We strongly discourage shifting firewood, even inside quarantine areas”, stated Brian Kuhn of DATCP.

 Keep a close watch for possible signs of EAB infestation: Thinning canopy, D-shaped holes in the bark, cracked bark, branches sprouting low on the trunk, and woodpeckers pulling at bark.

 Call a professional arborist, and visit emeraldashborer.wi.gov for detailed information.
