“We love you Jacob”, Patty Wetterling said.

Heinrich, 53, was in federal court to plead guilty to child pornography charges unrelated to Jacob’s killing.

Prosecutors say they have consulted with the Wetterling family and have gotten their approval for a plea deal, which means their son’s killer faces a recommended sentence of just 20 years in prison.

Heinrich said he told the two other boys to run and not look back or he’d shoot. I said, ‘Don’t cry.’ ” Heinrich said at some point a patrol auto with siren and lights passing nearby caused him to panic. Charging anyone for murder, meanwhile, would be impossible without a body.

Sources told CBS Minnesota Heinrich’s lawyers have always been in talks with federal prosecutors over some kind of plea agreement.

He says we can all do some simple things to honor Jacob’s memory.

“Heinrich was open for the moment to tell us what happened …”

Heinrich past year was named as a “person of interest” in the Jacob’s abduction.

After kidnapping the boy, Heinrich said, he handcuffed him and put him in the front seat of his auto.

“Heinrich was a volatile and unpredictable man who could want to talk one minute and then clam up”, Luger said.

At one point, Heinrich said, Jacob asked him: “What did I do wrong?”

I pulled the revolver out of my pocket. He shot the boy twice. Heinrich said he found a Bobcat and knew where the company kept the key, so he returned to the site and dug a hole using the Bobcat, which is where he buried Jacob. He added that he then gathered as much as he could, placed it in a bag, then transported it across the highway to a field.

MINNEAPOLIS – Danny Heinrich, the man who led authorities to the remains of Jacob Wetterling, is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. He maintained his innocence for years, and prosecutors never had enough evidence to charge him.

Heinrich laid in wait for the three boys to return, and when they did, he put on a mask and confronted them with a revolver. The remains of Wetterling were found earlier this week at a farm in Minnesota. Authorities find the red jacket that Jacob was wearing the day he was abducted. Luger said uncovering that piece of clothing solidified Heinrich was telling the truth. He told Wetterling to turn around and held the gun to the boy’s head.

Nine months before Jacob hopped on his bike for a quick trip to the video store, a 12-year-old boy in Cold Spring – Jared Scheierl – was walking home from the Side Cafe when a man forced him into the back seat of his vehicle and sexually assaulted him. Evidence, however, was flimsy.

The now-confessed killer was arrested previous year after about 150 images of child porn were found in his possession.

Investigators zeroed in on Heinrich then but J.S. was unable to identify him, Sanner said.

A bouquet of flowers is placed at the end of Jerry and Patty Wetterling’s driveway as news has come out that the search for Jacob Wetterling may be over, Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2016, in St. Joseph, Minn.
