Jaguars Def/Spec Team: Jaguars looking for answers against Rivers
Jacksonville is 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

That was the sentiment of Jaguars fans sitting outside the stadium after a 27-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Philip Rivers and company torched the Jags past year and the team is itching to prove that they have gotten better since then. It’s a trend Jacksonville needs to reverse to avoid a 0-2 start for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Jaguars receivers vs. Chargers secondary: The strength of the Jaguars is their receiving unit.
Last season, Rivers was 29 of 43 for 300 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in a 31-25 victory in Jacksonville. He is a deep threat who can blow the top off of defenses.
KEYS TO THE GAME: With Chris Ivory not getting released from the hospital until Tuesday night for his mystery medical issue, his availability for Sunday’s game remains most questionable. Dontrelle Inman is back for a third year with the Chargers after posting 35 receptions in 2015.
San Diego native and Jaguars kicker Jason Myers says he is used to traveling across the country. He had five grabs (one for a TD) last week against Kansas City. Robinson and Hurns are an incredibly dynamic receiving duo, though, and it is possible that they will just overwhelm the Chargers’ corners or their offensive coordinator will just find a way to get them lined up on linebackers or safeties none of whom can cover anyone that gets paid to catch passes in the NFL. The Jaguars’ only sack was on a Rodgers scramble, otherwise the Packers’ quarterback had plenty of time to pick apart Jacksonville’s defense.
With Allen sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL, the Chargers will turn to. Fowler was supposed to be one of the biggest reasons the Jaguars showed a better pass rush.
Last week San Diego gained possession of the ball with three minutes left in the third quarter and a 17-point lead. San Diego had 155 yards on 32 carries with two scores. The Chiefs came all the way back, scoring a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to force overtime. He spread the ball out nicely and had just one interception. “But if a couple more plays went our way today, it’s a totally different game”.
Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA. Defensively, San Diego couldn’t stop KC in the second half, giving up 363 yards to Alex Smith. Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, TJ Yeldon, and Julius Thomas are just the start of an offense that can throw up big numbers against any team. San Diego has yet to prove itself, especially without Keenan Allen, and the Jaguars are motivated after a close call against a Super Bowl contender in Week 1.
