Jaguars get more help on another game-winning drive

Or, as Edgar Allen Poe himself put it: Nevermore.

The Ravens looked great at the beginning of the game against the Jaguars, especially their defense.

Jacksonville has not made the AFC Playoffs since 2007.

The question now is, where do the Ravens go from here?

“They didn’t get the snap off in the sense that they didn’t get everybody set”, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday.

I’m sure this admission won’t make Ravens fans feel any better. Baltimore fell to 13-3 at home in November under Harbaugh. The score remained close all game and it again came down to the final seconds in the fourth quarter, which has been a familiar scene for this Ravens team.

“There’s nothing we can do about it now”, Harbaugh said. “We’re not going to let that go because we know what kind of football team we can be”. That’s the way life is. You have to find a way to overcome everything. We can deal with this.

That penalty moved the line of scrimmage from the Ravens’ 49-yard line to the 35 and gave the Jaguars one additional untimed play.

Instead, Dumervil’s 15-yard penalty pushed the Jaguars into field goal range.

“I was just out there trying to do something to get us downfield”, Bortles said. Luckily Dumervil gave them a boost.

“I saw zeros on the clock so I started jumping up and down”, cornerback Jimmy Smith said.

Minnesota sealed the win when Terence Newman intercepted Carr in the end zone with 2:03 left for his second pick of the game. Chris Givens was considered a talented receiver coming out of the draft, but hasn’t had an opportunity to shine in a Rams offense that hates to pass the ball. Lee finished with one reception for eight yards. As a result, the running attack never got going. TJ Yeldon led in rushing with 64 yards in 14 carries.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are another very young team who has been very fun to watch this season. The pass defense is in excess of 67%, a figure unheard off for this organization. Blake Bortles threw for 381 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. He was also sacked three times. Defensive tackle Brandon Williams had a key sack. He played outstanding, continuously picking on the beleaguered Cleveland secondary, finishing with 379 passing yards and three touchdowns, against just one interception. That set the Jaguars up with a 53-yard field goal attempt and no time on the clock. The Ravens had several nice returns negated by careless penalties.

The Jaguars were provided another turnover in the fourth quarter, and this one they turned into a touchdown. Coverage, though, was solid again. “We’re just leaving room for stuff like this to happen”, said Joe Flacco, who threw three touchdown passes but also committed three turnovers.
