Jaguars linebacker Dan Skuta arrested on battery charge

Jaguars linebacker Dan Skuta has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery in Orlando, Fla. She told police Skuta asked for her phone number and when she told him no, “a verbal altercation ensued between the two”. The incident was reported by a friend of the victim around 2:30 a.m. Skuta allegedly pushed the woman’s head into a glass window after she refused to give him her phone number.

Skuta’s eyes were bloodshot and officers could smell alcohol on his breath, police said.

If found guilty by a jury of his peers, Skuta could face discipline measures by the National Football League in addition to any legal woes.

‘The team has been in constant communication with Dan through this process in its entirety.

Skuta is entering his second season with the Jaguars and is accused of using an open hand to make contact with the woman, pushing her head against a window.

Skuta’s lawyer has since released a statement alleging that entire incident was made up and that Skuta was actually the person assaulted in the situation.

The woman said she was standing on the sidewalk with a friend when Skuta approached her and began “talking and flirting with her”, police said in the arrest report. In those games, he compiled 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Skuta, 30, signed a five-year, $20.5 million contract ($8.1 million guaranteed) in March 2015 to start at strong-side linebacker.

He has since pled not guilty – and is due back in court in July.
