Jaguars Still Looking For First Regular Season Win Against Patriots

The Miami Herald has learned that Suh freelanced at times Sunday, creating confusion on the defense.

“There’s a report that Ndamukong Suh was freelancing out there on the field”, Philbin said.

Philbin said he watched tape of the entire game with his defensive staff.

Tight end Marcedes Lewis, a former Pro Bowler, has fewer catches through two games (zero) than defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, who was used as a fullback on a few snaps and caught a 3-yard pass to convert a third down against the Dolphins. Jacksonville’s lone win was a 25-10 victory at Alltel Stadium in a Wild Card Playoff game on January 3, 1999.

And a Dolphins defensive back said Suh hasn’t been freelancing. They like to blitz the linebackers, and Paul Posluszny is still an effective run-stopper, but there’s not a whole lot of zone blitzing or confusion up front. “That’s certainly been the case for a couple of weeks”.

The Patriots’ last opponent had a lot of familiar faces – division rival Buffalo, which plays the Patriots twice each season, led by Rex Ryan, coaching his 14th game against the Patriots since 2009.

True, they probably should have beaten Atlanta in their opener, but Sunday’s debacle in which they couldn’t run or pass with any efficiency at home vs. Dallas raises some serious concerns. It’s not known where they are health-wise coming into this game, but it goes without saying that the Jaguars need to be healthy across the board for this one – particularly when it comes to going against Tom Brady and the Patriots passing game. I’m positive of that. “He did some good things but you could tell that he only had limited practices”. His numbers weren’t overwhelming, just two tackles but he was credited with an all-important sack-forced fumble late in the game with the score still tied at 20-all. You have to watch the tape.

Now the Dolphins’ offense is being presented with many single-high safety looks but they’ve been unable to take advantage of them. Defensively, not so much (their 6.2 yards per play allowed is sixth-worst in the NFL), but it’s hard to imagine a still-raw Blake Bortles and the Jags offense playing keep-up in Foxboro.

Sample had five tackles against the Dolphins and Bradley was proud of the way he got up to speed in just a short amount of time.

“It was just a dumb play by me”, Vernon said. “It’s a long season”.

There was some good in the Miami Dolphins’ 23-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Going into this season, he found himself fighting for a roster spot yet again. The Dolphins were flagged 13 times for 112 yards.

“We’ve got to get our run game going”, center Mike Pouncey said. “Eight!” But on their final series, the Jaguars drove 66 yards to set up a 28-yard, game-winning field goal by rookie kicker Jason Myers.

Philbin said he showed the entire team the tape on Monday under the heading “poise”. “We didn’t flinch at all on that”, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said.
