South African prosecutors have called his sentence “shockingly too lenient” and said last month they would seek to appeal against it.

According to City Press, an inmate situated close to the hospital section said Pistorius had injured himself intentionally.

Shamed Paralympian Oscar Pistorius denies reports that he attempted to commit suicide in jail, having been rushed to hospital with injuries to his wrist on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Correctional Services Department said that Pistorius was back at the prison.

Carl Pistorius, the athlete’s brother, also refuted the reports about Oscar’s suicide attempt while calling them “untrue and sensational”.

City Press newspaper cited unnamed guards at the prison and hospital as claiming the injuries were self-inflicted.

Pistorius was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentines Day in 2013.

He initially served one year of a five-year prison sentence for manslaughter, but the conviction was later overturned by an appeals court.

Pistorius, the first-ever double amputee to compete in the Olympics, rose to global fame as renown sprinter who ran on carbon-fiber prosthetic blades. The prosecution said he killed her deliberately after the two had an argument.

A psychologist told his sentencing hearing in June that the depression, anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder he had suffered from since the shooting.

Pistorius, a double amputee, made history as the first person with such a disability to run in the Summer Olympic Games with specially-made blade-like prosthetics that earned him the nickname “The Blade Runner”.
