Jake Arrieta of Chicago Cubs throws no-hitter vs. Reds

The southpaw pitched five innings in that game and allowed four unearned runs while walking four and striking out two.

Much like that one, the reigning NL Cy Young victor was just flat out dominant on Thursday night from the start.

At the plate, Arrieta was 2-for-4 with a walk, and even scored a run. It was the 14th no-hitter in Cubs history.

This series preview will be a bit shorter than usual, since the Cubs just saw the Reds last week at Wrigley Field. That’s when he dug in and made quick work of the Reds’ lineup.

What’s more, Chicago won two of three without its top two starters – Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester – lifting anything more than a towel in the series.

Kris Bryant hit a two-run shot in the first off Brandon Finnegan (1-1), and his third career grand slam in the seventh off Drew Hayes made it 13-0. Ben Zobrist and David Ross also went deep with only one player unable to reach base.

He scheduled to face Scott Schebler, the pitcher’s spot and Zack Cozart to lead off the ninth inning. They’re unbeaten this season when scoring at least four times, going 11-0.

In five career starts against the Reds, Arrieta is 3-2 with a 3.58 ERA. Since Aug. 1 of last season, he’s 15-0.

Although the Cubs lost their finale at St. Louis on Wednesday, 5-3, they still took two of three games in the series. When Bruce and Mesoraco lofted back-to-back balls into center to start the eighth, cheers rose more in anticipation of them being caught than them falling for a hit.
