Jake Coker returns to Alabama QB competition after injury ‘scare’

Saban did say following Saturday’s scrimmage that “one guy was better than another”, but didn’t give names and no stats were released.

Saban then proceeded to break the number of passing attempts for each quarterback.

In addition, Zenitz reports that Coker will be sidelined “several days”, according to Saban, with a foot injury which is expected to heal completely. For those keeping count, this is the second straight news conference where Saban mentioned all the quarterbacks but Cornwell. “I didn’t think he was going to come back that fast and then to see how he’s progressed from the spring until now, I mean, it’s fantastic nearly”.

One thing Saban wouldn’t reveal was how the workload was divided and which quarterback worked with which team.

“I’m not going to make an explanation for every guy that wears a black jersey”, Saban said. “And it’s probably not really important”. It’s our plan. But it’s not a plan we put out for speculation. Saban stopped reporters and addressed the quarterback situation before the question could even be asked on Wednesday, but there’s still no final answer. We don’t try to communicate with them all.

“[Morris] did a nice job, and Cooper Bateman did a nice job in the scrimmage”, Saban said. We’ve just got to continue to work on touch, accuracy, efficiency.

“Shank (Taylor) has had a really good camp”, Saban said Wednesday.
