Specifically, the reporter asked the “Brokeback Mountain” star if he felt that “perceived risk” of portraying a gay leading role in Hollywood had evolved in any way.

He also took a moment to share his feelings on the Supreme Court’s historic marriage equality ruling.

Surprisingly, Gyllenhaal can go about his baguette-purchasing in peace while in the capital, admitting that he hardly ever gets recognised by the British public.

Still, Gyllenhaal says he’s thankful for the experience of making “Brokeback” because it opened people’s eyes to what it means to be in love.

It’s been 10 years since Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as gay ranch hand Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain.

Speaking during a promotional tour for his latest film, Southpaw, the US-born star admitted having a soft spot for one of the North East’s most popular exports.

“Oh definitely it’s changed”, he answered. I mean I think, it just depends on the role and it depends on if I’m driven by it. I like to learn and do nearly anything for a role. But I think hopefully something like that in terms of-the resistance of society and seeing that it’s possible to change was such an awesome thing.

He added that he thought Justice Kennedy’s decision was “so handsome”, while his mom described it as being “all about love”.

“I eat Greggs, Greggs baguettes – that’s what I eat when I’m in London”, he said.

He tells Jo Parkerson of Britain’s Magic Radio, “My next stop, I think maybe before Broadway again, or anywhere in New York, will be the West End…” My brother said to me a few weeks ago, all we leave behind is the wake of our live, that’s all we have.

“When I did Nightcrawler I went to a doctor first”, Gyllenhaal said.
