Jake Gyllenhaal to star in Ubisoft’s ‘The Division’ movie
What’s interesting about that is that video game movies from the past decade or so have an entirely deserved reputation for being bad, but it feels as though studios are finally wising up to the fact that a well-made crossover between these two industries could earn them hundreds of millions (in its first week alone, The Division made an eye-watering $330m for Ubisoft).

Sources tell Variety that Jake Gyllenhaal is attached to star in the pic based on the hit videogame that has already become Ubisoft‘s fastest-selling product.
In producing the movie, Gyllenhaal will also have the ability to be hands-on in the big-budget film. Although there’s not writer or director attached yet.
Gyllenhaal has previous form with Ubisoft having starred in the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based on the now-dormant franchise.
Ubisoft is busy wrapping things up for their debut of the Assassin’s Creed film later this year, and it seems it’s not the only one of its IPs that might get the movie treatment.

Although Hollywood’s general interest in video game movies is yet to bear much fruit Ubisoft’s push to diversify has a secondary objective: they’re trying to avoid a hostile takeover from media giant Vivendi.
