Jalen Ramsey signs rookie deal

Jalen Ramsey wore a t-shirt that read “Just a kid from Nashville” as he signed his rookie contract with the Jaguars on Sunday.

Although the Jaguars did not reveal details of the agreement, ESPN’s Michael DiRocco reported, “The four-year deal is worth $23.3 million with a $15.1 million signing bonus”.

The Smyrna native and Brentwood Academy graduate, drafted fifth overall out of Florida State, inked a four-year deal that, like all first-round picks, includes a fifth-year team option.

Ramsey sustained a “small tear”, of the meniscus in his right knee during an on-field workout last week. He’s going to be meeting with world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews this week. Depending on the type of surgical procedure required, Ramsey could miss anywhere from six weeks to six months.

Ramsey, 6 feet 1 inch, 209 pounds, started all 41 games of his three-year career with the Seminoles, earning All-America honors each season.

Ramsey’s injury stirred reminders of 2015 first-round draft pick Dante Fowler, who never played last season for the Jaguars. Ramsey is the 21st player from a Florida school to be chosen by Jacksonville in the team’s history, as well as the sixth-ever Seminoles player to be drafted by the Jaguars.
