Jamaal Charles: Reid calls Charles (ACL) doubtful for Sunday

The drafts are complete, but before setting your Week 1 lineup, it is important to consider all options. In Charles’ anticipated absence, look for the Chiefs’ rushing attack to include both Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West, with Knile Davis also on hand. However, recent comments made by Chiefs head coach Andy Reid have put that status in doubt. The defense carried that team at times, but the return of dynamic running back Jamaal Charles from last year’s knee injury to join a solid receiving corps has Kansas City thinking about being more rounded this year. After all the drama involving Bosa’s contract holdout, he will be unable to play week 1 due to an injury, which does not help a Chargers pass rush that’s looking to improve the defense that finished in the bottom half of the league in most defensive stat categories a year ago.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Dee Ford (55) sacks San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers (17) in the second half at Arrowhead Stadium.

With an increased workload down the stretch, Ware rushed for 403 yards and six touchdowns on 72 carries last season.

Running back Melvin Gordon scored the first two touchdowns, making a nice change from his scoreless rookie season, and Rivers has completed 11 of 13 passes for 116 yards to pace the offense down the field with relative ease.

Tamba Hali did not practice for the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday but I don’t think we should be freaking out. With an improved offensive line, I expect to see more of the same out of Ware this season.

Charles tore an anterior cruciate ligament during the fifth game last season. Do not hesitate to get him in there.
