Jameis Winston throws all over Eagles

A short week gives the Philadelphia Eagles no time to dwell on a bad loss, and little time to figure out their problems.

Speaking of five touchdown passes, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston matched Newton as the Bucs shocked the Philadelphia Eagles in Pennsylvania, 45-17. There are potentially six more games of this crap.

We’ve been profiling college quarterbacks since the offseason. Having won their previous matchup, NY has a golden opportunity to put a few distance between themselves and Washington as they would be up by two in the standings with the tiebreaker in hand. On Sanchez’s third interception of the game, this one a pick six by Lavonte David with 4:16 to play, Darren Sproles and Sanchez got into a heated argument along the sidelines.

There were a couple of brief bright spots that should not go unrecognized.

The 283 rushing yards the Eagles gave up were the most allowed in a game in 42 years. Martin joins O.J. Simpson and Corey Dillon as the only RBs with two games with 235 yards. Jordan Matthews caught all four passes toward him for a gain of just 13 yards. In the last two games, he has 11 catches for 213 yards.

The Buccaneers’ offense gashed the Eagles for 521 yards and 25 first downs in a 45-17 victory Sunday afternoon at the Linc. Basically, if you started a Tampa Bay offensive skill player in fantasy, you’re pleased with the results. After repeatedly saying through much of last year’s 2-14 run that the Bucs were still playoff contenders, he now says his goal is simply to see continued improvement from his team.

On third-and-10, the Bucs line up in the empty back formation once more but don’t run the cross concept. Tampa Bay converted four third downs, including an eight-yard touchdown to Cameron Brate. Winston’s five scores were the most touchdowns thrown by a rookie quarterback since 1937, and his 15 TDs on the season lead all rookie quarterbacks.

– An anonymous Eagles player called out DeMarco Murray for not giving 100% after, ya know, getting an absurdly big contract following a grueling 2014 season. They registered one sack and made no interceptions.

This grade may be a bit harsher than it should be, because Caleb Sturgis and Donnie Jones did all that was asked of them.

Smith also said earlier in the week that while Gerald McCoy’s play wasn’t showing up on the stat sheet at the end of the game, he was continuing to play hard and do good things for the team. The Eagles did not allow many yards on kick and punt returns, which was encouraging.

The Buccaneers found the end zone on their second drive of Sunday’s game and never let off the throttle. Opposing receivers weren’t pressed well leading to tackles verses defended passes. You do the math.

As far as fans’ frustration goes, within that Inquirer story, there is a poll asking if head coach Chip Kelly’s job is “safe” – with over 9,200 votes, 82 percent are responding no. Kelly is going to be roasted this week.

The Eagles have a very short week before traveling to Detroit to face the Lions in a 12:30 p.m. game on Thanksgiving.

The Eagles lost to the Bucs, making them look, in the process, like the New England Patriots, for Pete’s sake.

If it wasn’t for the AFC South, the NFC East would be the worst division in football. The Eagles are 2-5 in Philadelphia since last December. McGuire is a member of the FWAA and National Football Foundation.
