James Anderson ruled out of first Test with calf strain
Victory of their final heat-up recreation earlier than the first test towards South Africa has delighted England coach Trevor Bayliss, who sees it as an excellent omen for the 4-test collection that begins on Saturday.

Moeen Ali took 6-77 to ensure England concluded their preparations for the Boxing Day Test with a resounding innings-and-91-run triumph over South Africa A in Pietermaritzburg.
If South Africa perform at their very best, England will have their work cut out and Bayliss’ men will have to be outstanding to match the Springboks over the four-match Test series. South Africa have never successfully replaced Graeme Smith – just as England are still looking out for the successor to Andrew Strauss.
Although Rabada and Abbott have just eight Test caps between them, Donald believes South Africa’s depth will help them dominate. Some good follow days and two good hit-outs as nicely.
According to BBC, two from-Steven Finn, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan or Mark Footitt-will join Stuart Broad in England’s attack.
“He was put through a thorough fitness test on Thursday by physiotherapist, Shane Jabaar, he came through the tests without any discomfort and will be available for selection for the first Test match against England”. “I think it gives you good balance, especially in the last innings when there is a bit of turn and it also gives the seam bowlers a bit of rest”, he said.
Bayliss said it is always a concern, but he wasn’t going to make any predictions on if he was fit to play, “It’s always a concern if your leading bowler or leading batter misses a game somewhere, but the last time he missed one we did pretty well”.
Broad has not played white ball cricket since the World Cup, with Bayliss encouraging greater separation between the formats and blooding a handful of younger players in the shorter forms.
“We do know this is a four-Test series and we want him to play a part in it. We’ve got such depth in the squad there’s not the need to take a risk”. I think you will write him off at your peril.
“We’re not sure what to expect out there yet – we’re still a couple of days out from the Test – but we’ll just have to react as quickly as we can”.

Flaws aren’t necessarily a bad thing; they add intrigue and level the playing field, but the weak spots of South Africa and England are remarkably similar.
