According to Brad Brevit at Box Office Mojo, Spectre fell just over $15 million behind Skyfall, although Skyfall opened in 2012 unopposed, whereas Spectre likely had a large bite taken out of its potential box office earnings opening the same weekend as the family friendly Peanuts Movie, which, aside from decades of intrinsic brand awareness also benefited from a lengthy and well-budgeted advertising campaign. The 24th film in the 53-year-old series stars Daniel Craig as the dapper spy and cost a reported $250 million to produce. “This is good news for Hollywood to get things back on track”.
What do U think – did U see anything in theaters this weekend??
“Unquestionably, this is a big, big success in America, the second-biggest Bond movie debut ever here”.
The Peanuts Movie brings to animated life the characters created by Charles M. Schulz in his famous comic strip and the script was co-written by his son Craig and grandson Bryan.
The United Kingdom wasn’t alone in shattering box office records as almost every releasing market saw SPECTRE make history as the biggest box office opening of all-time. All signs point for this to be the beginning of a new Peanuts franchise. “This opening is exactly what the filmmakers needed for that”.
Peanuts was a hit with critics, receiving an 86% positive rating on RottenTomatoes.com. Audiences gave it an A on CinemaScore.
“The Martian” solidified its blockbuster status with an estimated $9.3 million in weekend ticket sales, for a whopping $197.1 million in the six weeks since its release. The Ridley Scott-directed film has brought in almost $200 million since its late September debut.
