James Cameron and Dark Horse teaming up for Avatar comics
No word on when we can expect its release. But a new partnership should help hold fans over.

James Cameron, Dark Horse Comics and Twentieth Century Fox announced that AVATAR, the highest-grossing film in history, will expand into the world of comic books during a special panel at New York Comic Con 2015.
As we sit tight for the long-awaited sequels to Avatar, we will have to make do with a new comic book series. Considering that it’s not being touted as a sequel, it’s safe to assume that most of the story will transfer over from the 2003 version, though it’s possible that Heisserer and Sepulveda could take the series in a different direction.
Cameron is now working on three sequels to Avatar, with the first scheduled for release in 2017. So Lightstorm will be working in partnership with Dark Horse Comics to reveal new storylines from the past, present and the future world of Avatar.
“James Cameron is one of the film industry’s greatest talents”. “Covering the time before, during, and after the events of the original Avatar film”.

The announcement continues a long relationship between the Oregon-based publisher and Cameron; previously, the company has published comics spinning out of his Aliens, Terminator and The Abyss features. Jensen plans to write two new comics series: a conspiracy story called Cryptocracy and a crime fiction piece called Two Dead.
