James Milner & Danny Ings score as Liverpool beat Adelaide United

For the second time in four days, the Premier League club attracted a big crowd to an Australian stadium and were given a good workout by A-League opposition.

Danny Ings hailed his first goal in a Liverpool shirt as a “massive moment” – but insisted he hasn’t felt any pressure on him since completing his move from Burnley.

Milner, who already found the net against Brisbane Roar last week, opened the scoring in the second half when he latched on to a low driven ball across the face of goal to tuck the chance away emphatically.

The first goal from Milner was after a nice pass from the right wing by Jordon Ibe, as the Adelaide defense was confused by the movement of Adam Lallana, allowing his midfield partner to slip through the middle of the penalty box and score the goal.

“The goal is trademark run that I’ve built my career on so far, when I see a player drive at the defence I dart across – I think that’s the most deadly position for me to be in”, he added.

Origi was free in front of goal when he failed to get on the end of a Joe Gomez cross in the fifth minute and that was only the first of a string of missed opportunities.

The other 18 members of Liverpool’s tour squad are all on the bench and I’m sure Rodgers will make full use of his squad throughout the game.

Milner scored from Jordan Ibe’s cross in the 67th minute and Danny Ings tapped in from close range in the 88th to double the margin in front of more than 53,000 fans at the Adelaide Oval.
