James Milner: Maybe it’s time to end my England career

The energetic midfielder, who has won 61 caps for England since making his debut in 2009, played just three minutes at Euro 2016 – and does not wish to extend his global career if he is not going to make a meaningful contribution.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has suggested that he could call time on his worldwide career with England after failing to gain regular playing time.

Milner is expected to speak to Sam Allardyce, the new England…

“But for the next two years, captain or not captain, I’ll turn up and be available to play if I am wanted”.

“But if a younger guy had come in and maybe done the same job in the summer he would have taken a lot more from it than I would”.

Rooney knows that at 30 years of age, his worldwide career may be drawing to a close, but he is determined to carry on playing until the next World Cup at least.

“I am fortunate to have been involved in global football since I was 17 or 18 without stopping”.

The German may opt against signing cover for Alberto Moreno, with the versatile Milner open to playing there if needed.

Milner was the third-most capped player in England’s Euro 2016 squad, behind captain Wayne Rooney (115) and Joe Hart (63).

“I am happy it is Sam as I know I can have a good conversation with him and it will be honest”.

As the man himself noted, there’s just one glaring exception: “I’m just looking for goalkeeper now to complete the set”.
