James Vince dropped for England’s one-day fixtures

Vince failed to score a Test 50 after making his debut against Sri Lanka earlier this season and the recent Pakistan series saw the Hampshire captain manage just 158 runs in seven innings at an average of 22.

Fit-again duo Ben Stokes and Mark Wood have been named in England’s squad for the one-day worldwide series against Pakistan, with James Vince dropped.

All-rounder Stokes, 25, has recovered from the calf injury he suffered in the second Test against Pakistan.

Stokes’ Durham team-mate Wood could make his first worldwide appearance since suffering an ankle injury playing against Pakistan in Dubai last October. James Vince has been dropped while his Hampshire teammate Liam Dawson has been given an ODI call-up. He takes the place of Steven Finn who picked up a hamstring injury on the fourth day at The Oval.

Two other players are available after injuries on county duties – Jos Buttler, who fractured a thumb five weeks ago, and captain Eoin Morgan, who chipped a bone in his little finger on 26 July.

“He’s progressing nicely towards bowling over the next week or so, and while we hope that initially he might just play as a batter he will lead into the series as an all-rounder eventually. To have him around again will be a huge bonus for Eoin Morgan and his team”, he added.

Off-spinner Dawson, 26, the only player uncapped in the squad, made an impressive worldwide debut with 3-27 in the T20 against Sri Lanka at his home county ground, the Ageas Bowl, in July.

David Malan and Northamptonshire’s Liam Duckett, who both impressed for the England Lions in the triangular series against Pakistan A and Sri Lanka and Sam Billings, didn’t feature but the latter two are expected to feature in the T20 squad that will be named later this month.
