Jamie Vardy equals Premier League record as Leicester go top
England striker Vardy equaled Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games for his club by netting Leicester’s opener in a 3-0 win away at Newcastle United during first-half stoppage-time at St James’ Park.

Nevertheless, although initially refusing to highlight specific performances from the victory, the ex-Monaco boss was incapable of escaping questions about the current Premier League top-goalscorer, Jamie Vardy.
Vardy and Leicester continue to be the feel-good story of the season and that is why Vardy is the EPL hero of the week.
Three years ago, striker James Vardy was plying his trade with non-League side Fleetwood Town. “The more we can do that, the better”.
“Obviously, the cryo chamber that we’ve got at the training ground’s come in use”.
“We can see there is talent there, and a capability of winning games”, he said. “Fair play to him he’s doing brilliantly and the lads will keep supporting him in everything we do”, Drinkwater said.
“Manchester United are probably still reeling from what happened to them at our place last season, and they will want some sort of revenge”, said Schmeichel.
“Sometimes players like Vardy can be a little bit exposed, because you think about him running in behind”.
“We’ve stopped going goals behind, we’ve started leading games and sticking it out. If somebody came in it would give him the chance to kick on again”.
Vardy admitted equalling the record in another win for high-flying Leicester made it a flawless day.
These are heady days for the Midlands side – who returned to the Premier League last season – and their highest-profile player.
During his time as Fiorentina manager, Ranieri watched Gabriel Batistuta score in 11 Serie A games in succession, and the Italian would love to see Vardy equal the Argentinian legend’s feat. Vardy is yet to break his England duck in his four appearances for the Three Lions this year, while Lineker stands as the third-most prolific striker in England history having scored 48 goals in his 80 global caps, behind only Sir Bobby Charlton and top scorer Wayne Rooney.
“La Marseillaise”, France’s national anthem, was played before kick-off at Vicarage Road as a mark of respect in a gesture that was repeated ahead of all of Saturday’s Premier League matches.
“I’m very, very happy for his performance”.

“I thought we looked fragile out there and that is something that can only be solved from within, both within each individual and within the dressing room as a whole”.
