Janis Joplin’s Porsche Expected To Fetch Over $400000 On Sotheby’s Auction Block
A 50-year-old sports auto once owned by singer Janis Joplin is expected to fetch a staggering £260,000 when it goes up for auction later this year.

The auto, which was acquired by the artist in 1968 and quickly given a hallucinogenic paintjob by her band’s roadie, Dave Richards, is planned to be shown and offered available to be purchased at Sotheby’s Driven by Disruption display and closeout December in New York.
The Porsche has since belonged to Joplin’s family, which lent it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland where it was on display from 1995 until this week after the family decided to sell it.
According to MSN News on September 16, that Porsche is hitting the auction block in New York. The iconic vehicle was covered with colorful illustrations of butterflies, jellyfish, and Joplin herself, and served as a calling card for the singer. It was given a “meticulous restoration” to its original customization in the early 1990s.
“Janis drove everywhere, all around San Francisco and down to Los Angeles when she was recording there”, recounted Laura Joplin, the singer’s sister.
One Janis Joplin fan is soon going to be very happy.
“Besides Janis’s music and legacy, her Porsche is the most visual and important piece of memorabilia that exists”, Michael Joplin, Janis’ brother, told RM Sotheby’s.

“As a titan of the creative movement of the late 1960s, Janis Joplin remains one of the music industry’s brightest stars”, Kelleher said. Joplin died of a drug overdose two years later. The event will feature “30 creatively-styled and pioneering motor cars and select automotive-themed artwork”. The ’65 Porsche 356C Cabriolet will be in the Sotheby’s December 10, auction in the Big Apple.
