According to an announcement made on Pokemon’s official Japanese site, Nintendo is set to launch its 2DS handheld gaming console in Japan with the rollout of four special Pokemon-themed console models.

There have been speculations that Nintendo may choose different sets of Pokemon stickers, a special menu theme, and also a poster that is based on the map for the region under Kanto.
The anniversary release of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow in Japan will have several promotions, including exclusive new hardware. It was at this time in 1996 that the first edition Pokemon trading cards were originally printed in Japan. You’ll be able to use the code with your 2DS game, or on Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, and Pokemon X and Y.
Preorders for the Nintendo console started on Saturday, Dec. 26, each pre-installed with a version of Pokemon Blue, Yellow, Red or Green.
Those that do choose to import these Pokemon collectibles can expect to receive 60 cards, a player’s manual, and a special coin.

Nintendo’s hingeless 2DS console is coming to Japan early next year. And while physical copies of the games might not be available in the US, Virtual Console editions of the classic games will be available worldwide at the end of February. Unfortunately though, there is no word on a western release just yet.
