Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka campaign lives on as he beat Argentinean Horacio Zeballos in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to continue his great run in the US state of Georgia.
Young beat countryman Tim Smyczek 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3, and Opelka upset third-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5.
John Isner’s quest for a fourth successive Atlanta Open remains on track, while second seed Nick Kyrgios also reached the semi-finals on Friday.
In fact Kyrgios dropped just 10 points when his first serve went in and faced just one break point in the match, which he saved. “And before I was very emotional, throwing rackets and getting frustrated”.
The second set was identical to the first, with Nishioka breaking the Argentine in the opening game and only dropping three points on serve to clinch the match. He has 10 ATP Tour titles.
In the other quarterfinal, seventh-seeded Donald Young will play fellow American Reilly Opelka.
Kyrgios outlasted Verdasco 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 in Atlanta.

“We were both serving well, both hitting big and to be honest I was feeling pretty average towards the end and I’m just glad I got through”.
