Japan to extend unilateral sanctions against North Korea
Editor’s note: Jonathan Cristol is a fellow at the World Policy Institute and a senior fellow at the Center for Civic Engagement at Bard College. The latest two resolutions (Resolutions 2270 and 2321), adopted a year ago in response to North Korea’s fourth and fifth nuclear tests, represent the strongest-ever sanctions by the Security Council.

Tillerson also might stop making routine statements after every North Korean provocation or missile launch, Bong said.
This missile test, like those before it, was specifically timed to coincide with a major political event.
The launch comes on the eve of a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States to meet President Donald Trump.
It has kept up the pace in the first three months of 2017.
North Korea has long claimed that the United States is preparing to conduct similar precision strikes against its territory or even launch an all-out invasion.
Following the airstrikes on Friday, the U.S. has warned the Assad regime it is prepared to take further action in Syria if necessary.
However, a senior USA defense official told reporters Wednesday that the missile may have been an older liquid-fueled, extended-range scud missile fired from a fixed location.
North Korea test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile yesterday from its eastern port of Sinpo into the Sea of Japan.
Since North Korea detonated its first nuclear device in 2006, the United Nations Security Council has adopted six resolutions.
“Most of the (North Korean) players looked like they cried so it was hard for us to approach them after the game”, said South Korean blueliner Park Ye-Eun. “China has done little to help!”
Abe and Trump were meeting at the Mar-a-Lago estate in February when North Korea launched a rocket, setting off a controversy when the leaders set up an impromptu “situation room” in full view of the resort’s guests. “And if they do, that will be very good for China, and if they don’t, it won’t be good for anyone”. But unlike Syria, experts warn that North Korea has a means of striking back if provoked.
Recent satellite imagery shows possible preparations for a test at North Korea’s main nuclear test site, including the laying of communication cables used to initiate a test and collect data. US officials confirm an object in orbit, but no signal is detected.

North Koreans fill the Kim Il Sung Stadium to watch their country’s women’s soccer team compete against South Korea in a qualifying match for the Asian Football Confederation Cup at the Kim Il Sung Stadium on Friday, April 7, 20. South Korea is bolstering its defense capabilities as Kim Jong Un’s regime works toward developing long-range, nuclear-tipped missiles. And for China to prove that it, too, can be a stabilising power in the 21st century, it will have to do its part to resolve the conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

Both sides pressed for a victor through seven increasingly tense minutes of injury time, and at the final whistle the South’s Taeguk Ladies celebrated as if victorious, while the North’s players looked distraught. Unfortunately for the region, it has been left to Trump.
