University of California quarterback Jared Goff was the first player picked in the NFL Draft in the early hours on Friday morning in Chicago.

For the second time in seven years, the Los Angeles Rams used the first overall pick in the National Football League draft on a quarterback.
Los Angeles traded their first-round pick, two second-rounders and a third-round choice in 2016 as well as their first and third-round selections next year to the Tennessee Titans to move from number 15 to the top spot.
Wentz was the No. 2 selection by the Eagles after a successful career at North Dakota State in the second tier of college football.
Philadelphia’s move for Wentz saw the likes of San Diego Chargers, Jacksonvlile Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers take top-level defensive talents in the form of Joey Bosa, Jalen Ramsey and DeForest Buckner.

Yet in typically dramatic fashion, the draft delivered a riposte to those who question teams for giving up multiple picks for a quarterback with two slides down the board that are likely to be remembered for some time.

Goff finished with 26 school records including all-time marks for passing yards (12,220), touchdown passes (96), total offense (12,086) and completions (977).
But that thinking has obviously gone by the wayside as the quarterback position has taken on outsized importance in today’s pass-happy sport.
“They’re passionate and they care, and I think Carson Wentz is going to appeal to them”, Mayock said. That hunch proved to be true as L.A.’s new pro football team snagged the 6-foot-4, 215-pound player.
