Jared Goff’s National Football League debut was overshadowed by Dak Prescott

Josh McCown, stay in Cleveland.

Colts 19, Bills 18: With Andrew Luck getting a break, backup quarterbacks Scott Tolzien and Stephen Morris teamed up in leading the Colts to a preseason-opening win in Orchard Park, N.Y.

Current Rams starter Case Keenum was efficient if unremarkable, completing six of seven passes for 58 yards before ceding to Goff. Prescott was 10 of 12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns, with both incompletions coming on drops by Geoff Swain. Later in the quarter, fourth-round pick Prescott hit wide receiver Dez Bryant for a 10-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0.

The Pro Bowl receiver leaped over the back of the corner and caught the ball as if he were picking cherries off of a tree.

Bryant went up to catch the ball, extended over the goal line and then tucked it away. I think Ryan Russell has a nice game, and Dak Prescott takes strides towards the backup quarterback role throwing for a touchdown and running for one as well.

“You know, those older players and established guys aren’t going to play a whole lot”. Number one overall pick Jared Goff will make his professional football debut, with Todd Gurley beside him ready to lead the Rams into this new era.

Prescott played with poise and accuracy. His eyes were in the right position as he displayed total command of the offense. Simply put, Prescott can play, regardless if it’s a preseason game against the lowly Rams.

Rams running back Todd Gurley and defensive end Robert Quinn also did not play, as a crowd of 89,140 saw Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead score on a 101-yard kick return to welcome the National Football League back to Southern California after a 22-year absence. That helped Dallas jump out to a 24-7 lead. Bryant posted career lows in receptions (31), receiving yards (401), TDs (3) and games played (9). “He was an engine to bring the Rams back here to LA”. Undrafted rookie wideout, Andy Jones, dropped two easy passes. The night belonged to third stringer Sean Mannion however, as he had the best day out of the three quarterbacks.

Jameill Showers was solid in the second half.

But this was the Dak Prescott show.

However, the Cowboys were backed up by penalties. But that one touchdown wasn’t a pretty tackling exhibition for Dallas. The Rams came out on top in the end with a 28-24 comeback victory. “You get to decide who plays and who doesn’t play”.

But the defense is a major question mark.

No one can accurately predict how a young quarterback will play in the regular season after watching a preseason performance, but frankly, if such prognostication was possible, there wasn’t much to glean from Goff’s truncated performance Saturday.
