Jared Leto has signed on to join the cast of the star-studded Blade Runner sequel.
Warner Bros.’ adaptation of “Suicide Squad” may not be winning over critics – or Jared Leto, for that matter – but it continues to shatter box office records. Here’s hoping the story Denis Villeneuve & co want to tell is worthy of their talents.
In the sequel, set many decades after the original flick, Deckard is older, but he will still presumably be hunting androids that have gone rogue. Warner Bros. will be releasing the movie in North America with Sony Pictures releasing the film internationally. Other stars confirmed to join the “Blade Runner” sequel are Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista. Blade Runner 2 will be released in France October 4, 2017.
Ridley Scott is not directing the follow-up to his 1982 sci-fi classic, but is back as an executive producer.

Original Film Concept: In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. The script was written by Hampton Fencher and Michael Green, with Hampton returning after writing the screenplay for the first one while Green is known for his work on the 2011 “Green Lantern” film. Forgetting the bad taste of the Suicide Squad furor, we think Leto has always given good performances, and sometimes great performances – and he’s chosen his parts (mostly) well so far in his career. (Maybe that explains why 2016 has been such a insane year – this world needs to spiral fast if it plans to catch up to Blade Runner’s image of 2019.) Scott’s movie was based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.
