Ultimately I feel the film will be polarising much like Batman Vs Superman was. It’s also very music heavy, with songs playing over nearly every scene in the movie. The un-hinged Harley Quinn has proved too cray-cray for some, but I dug it. Who’s bright idea was it to include Joker in this cinematic universe so early on, anyway? She’s also obsessively devoted to her boyfriend, the Joker (Jared Leto), who is also the one responsible for her transformation from accomplished psychotherapist to all out psychopath.
“This is a character with no rules and I think that fun is one of the crucial parts to the Joker; a little bit of chaos and it does help if you are a little bit of a psychopath as well”. “And in those tiny shorts [her character] Harley wears, her butt was constantly on display”. It’s stitched together by an endless jukebox of everything from “House of the Rising Sun” to K7’s “Come Baby Come”, a soundtrack gimmick taken straight from “Guardians of the Galaxy” (which more successfully gave the superhero movie new moves).
This group of degenerates are released from their cells under the order of Viola Davis’ character Amanda Waller, who’s some big shot who deals with high-ranking military officials. You either kill for her, or she’ll kill you. Didn’t she just remind you of an enjoyably sadistic alternative to Marvel’s Nick Fury? And that’s one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you fucking love them and you think they’d be awesome scenes and do these unbelievable things but the film is a dictatorship (laughs), not a democracy, and just because something’s cool and charismatic doesn’t mean it gets to survive in the final cut.

Aside from that, they were also given each a specific item for their cell, or a pass to do something: Deadshot gets to see his daughter, Killer Croc is gifted a TV cell, and Harley Quinn an espresso machine. Hardcore fans on the other hand simply want to see these characters and stories stay true to themselves in some way or the other. Or even just a bottle room where they get to know each other in prison and share stories about their adversaries like an evil Breakfast Club?
