Jarryd Hayne makes strong start for 49ers in National Football League comeback
To make room on the roster, the 49ers placed left guard Alex Boone on injured reserve.

San Francisco only have short-yardage back Kendall Gaskins and the recently acquired DuJuan Harris on their running back roster with starter Shaun Draughn ruled out of the week 16 tilt with a knee injury.
Hayne was a star in Australia’s National Rugby League but a novice at NFL football. Hayne fumbled three times as a punt returning – including his first attempt in Week 1.
After McGaughey’s comments it will be interesting to see if the 49ers play Hayne at punt returner as well as running back.
Hayne was on the 49ers’ practice squad but had the possibility of being promoted to the 53-man team at any time.
The Lions defeated the 49ers 32-17 in Detroit on Sunday.
If Hayne doesn’t show the goods in Detroit he could find himself waived and back on the practice squad.
After Hayne’s bullocking runs, the 49ers were in striking distance of a touchdown, and little more than five minutes into the first quarter quarterback Blaine Gabbert connected with tight end Vance McDonald for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead. As a result, he earned only few snaps at running back, carrying the ball eight times for 25 yards.
Boone already had been listed as out for Sunday’s game at Detroit, due to a knee injury.
Jarryd Hayne is back on the active roster for the 49ers.
Hayne’s return to the 49ers’ 53-man squad doesn’t ensure he will play the Lions. They also signed Pierre Thomas, Travaris Cadet, Gaskins and Harris.

Hayne, however, said he was going through his pre-game warm up on the Lion’s indoor Ford Field when one of his coaches walked up and revealed he would start.
