Jason Day’s mom from Australia recounts his record-setting PGA Championship win
So when he teed off Sunday, holding a two-stroke lead on the final day of the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Day wasn’t about to let the opportunity for a first major slip away again.

“With rounds of 68-67-66-67, he became the first player to finish a major championship at 20 under, breaking the record in relation to par set by Tiger Woods in the 2000 British Open when he finished 19 under“.
Day, who had previously recorded nine top-10 finishes in the majors, six of them in the top four, was unable to hold back the tears even before tapping in at the 18th.
“A lot of emotion has come out because I’ve been so close so many times and fallen short…” “It’s been a long-time relationship between me and Colin”, the golfer said.
After a string of near misses in the past five years, Queenslander Jason Day was beginning to wonder whether his name would forever be on that dreaded list of “best players never to win a major”.
Rory McIlroy admitted Jordan Spieth deserved to replace him as world number one following the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
“Winning two majors, winning a couple other times this year, had a chance at the Open, has a chance obviously today”, he said of Spieth. Spieth took two majors this year and was in contention in all four. If Day, McIlroy and Spieth can play their best, the playoffs could be a battle between the three for the big prize.
Spieth is golf’s second youngest No. 1 after Tiger Woods, who turned No. 1 on the age of 21.
Jason Day won the tournament on Sunday, catapulting him to No. 3 in the world golf rankings.
But Day has all the attributes needed to go on from here and win several more, not least hunger: he loves it and you can see he loves it. He is very much still improving and this could just get the ball rolling.
Below is a look at the top 10 of the world golf rankings, following the 2015 PGA Championship.
“I still want to accomplish that number one goal of mine, which is to be the best player in the world”, Day said.
Day made seven birdies and just two bogeys and was dominant with his driver all day.

“It has the longest shelf life of any tournament, at eight months, and will draw novices in a similar fashion to the Kentucky Derby or Daytona 500 as someone tries their hand at golf wagering”, Sherman said.
