Jason Denayer joins Sunderland from Manchester City on season-long loan

The 2015-16 season saw the Belgium worldwide loaned out for a second time as he joined Turkish side Galatasaray, where he went on to make 28 appearances.

City boss Pep Guardiola did not have plans for Denayer in his team this season but the Belgium worldwide is considered a promising young talent and was only allowed to leave on loan.

The move is fairly surprising on City’s part as, after the departure of Eliaquim Mangala on loan to Valencia, the club only has three senior centre-backs and one of them, Vincent Kompany, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Sunderland have announced the signing of Jason Denayer on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

Denayer, who signed a new five-year deal with the Blues in July 2015, has already spent season-long loan deals with Celtic and Galatasaray, making a total of 69 appearances over the past two seasons. Marc Wilmots certainly liked what he saw from Denayer and handed him a place in the squad for Belguim’s Euro 2016 campaign.

Denayer also lifted the Scottish Premiership title with Celtic whilst on loan at Parkhead during the 2014/15 season.

Sunderland won the race for his services, though, offering Denayer the chance to secure Premier League experience at the Stadium of Light.
