The Giants’ frustration with the complete lack of information about Pierre-Paul’s status was evident on Thursday when John Mara and Tom Coughlin addressed the media at the beginning of training camp.

If you were to proclaim that things aren’t so well between Jason Pierre-Paul and the New York Giants, you’d be right.

Coughlin also mentioned reaching out to Pierre-Paul as soon as he heard what happened, but has yet to receive a response. “We miss you”. Mara was not mad, and conceded nothing on the theory this episode would taint the franchise’s relationship with its best defensive player.
Mara said it was “disappointing to him” that Pierre-Paul refused to meet with Giants officials when they traveled to see him at a Florida hospital earlier this month. “We have no idea what their intentions are at this point”, Mara said. “He fits in very well”. We’d like him to come in and report, and at the very least, learn the new defense that Steve Spagnuolo is putting in. It is hard not to feel a bit of sympathy for Pierre-Paul.
Pierre-Paul has yet to sign the franchise tag placed on him by the Giants, meaning he technically is not a member of the team.
But he was in line for even more, assuming the two sides would have made headway on the long-term deal they were discussing. Right now, the Giants are simply hoping that Pierre-Paul shows up to camp, at some point.
