Now Pierre-Paul has joined the fun.

Pierre-Paul has avoided reporters and even his own team – the New York Giants – for the last several weeks, but apparently emerged over the weekend at a charity event in Florida.

In the days after the fireworks accident that cost Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul one of his fingers, there were plenty of jokes on Twitter and other social media made at Pierre-Paul’s expense.

That revelation came early Sunday afternoon, in Pierre-Paul’s first public statement since he derailed his career and damaged his right hand in a fireworks accident near his Miami-area home on July 4th. God has greater plans for me.

“What happened to me was not a set back”.

Two minutes later, he added this: “My bad except lost a finger LOL”.

Rapoport writes that the Giants still “have not received a definitive update from him, nor have their doctors examined him”. JPP no doubt got hammered with people telling him that, which is what makes his follow-up tweet so awesome.

Per Rapoport, while Pierre-Paul’s health is trending in a positive direction and he’s expected to report prior to the start of the regular season, he’s still been doing his best to keep the New York franchise at bay.

And while it worked – no one saw Pierre-Paul – the execution was lacking.

As we saw in these photos, the injury to Pierre-Paul’s hand seemed very severe.
